Beamish museum is the living museum of the North of England. Buildings have been collected and rebuilt in Beamish and filled with objects of history. The site is 350 acres and can be walked,in a circular route( one and a half miles ). Most people used the trams and buses at no cost,Pop on and off as you please. I had 3 tram rides and one bus ride,. My admission ticket ,is valid for 12 months , for return visits.
--------------------------------------------I have been taking a day trip once a week through Autumn, this is my trip to Beamish Museum, in County Durham, England. The day was lovely blue skies and sunny but very cold..I took the train from York to Newcastle, then bus to Beamish entrance. Trains are about 5 in a hour, and the bus 2 in a hour.-----Beamish museum founder was Frank Atkinson, he got the idea from a open air folk museum on a visit on a Scandinavian trip in the 1950s. Beamish opened in 1973 ,and as developed at a pace since. Today a 1950s section is under construction.----The museum is in lovely countryside. There are several eating places, the best is the tearoom and cafe in Town, busy even on a cold day in November. The Sun Inn Pub is a working pub with local beers. The Co-op has items on sale , as does the Bakery. Modern money . The buildings are not just fronts, but complete houses or shops. A great day out, i will be using my unlimited pass ticket, valid for 12 months.soon.---- There is plenty of car parking space.Posted by alectrevor 07:03 Comments (3)
